Zomato stands up against religious discrimination: Social Media Reacts

Zomato stood against hate from a customer who asked for a “non-Hindu” delivery executive.

The man, Amit Shukla who hails from Madhya Pradesh in a series of tweets shared screenshots of his conversation with Zomato’s customer care.

Shukla, in Zomato’s inbuilt chat feature asked the customer representative to change the “rider” because he didn’t “need delivery from a Muslim fellow”.  Soon, the customer care representative cancelled Shukal’s order.

The man in a series of tweets bursted out at Zomato and maybe hoped for Zomato to reverse their decision and provide him with a couple of free coupons. But to his surprise it backfired, and he was widely condemned for his demands.

The man’s tweet found a response from Zomato which was widely appreciated on Twitter.

Later, Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal in a message on the incident tweeted, “We are proud of the idea of India – and the diversity of our esteemed customers and partners. We aren’t sorry to lose any business that comes in the way of our values.”

However, many questioned Zomato for delivering “halal” food. In a statement Zomato clarified.
