In the second match of ICC cricket World Cup 2019 (CWC), between West Indies and Pakistan, West Indies crushed Pakistan by seven wickets at Trent Bridge on Friday.
The match was dominated by the Windies, making it a one sided encounter. The the two time champions showed resurgent force in the one-dayer. Fast bowler Oshane Thomas took four Pakistani batsmen as Pakistan were bundled out for their second-lowest World Cup total of 105 in just 21.4 overs .
The West Indies smashed to the total in 13.4 overs, making it one of the fastest victories in World Cup. Chris Gayle top scoring with 50 runs, he reached his half century in 33 balls smashing three sixes and six fours before he was dismissed off the next ball he faced.
Gayle, who calls himself the “Universe Boss”, broke the record for the most sixes hit in World Cup history, he now has 40 maximums, three more than retired South African batsman AB de Villiers.
For Pakistan only Mohammad Amir showed an intent to play, he picked up three wickets.
The Pakistani batsmen were exposed by some short-pitched deliveries at a Trent Bridge pitch, which is usually known as a batsmen’s pitch. Opener Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam were the joint top-scorers with 22 each in their kitty. Riaz and Mohammad Hafeez were the only two other batsmen who scored double digit runs, 18 and 16 respectively.
Holder took three wickets and Andre Russell chipped in with two.
Pakistan’s lowest World Cup score was 74, made against England at Adelaide.
Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed, pointed out that he was “Very disappointed at the batting,” because he was very confident before the match about the short ball but his batsmen didn’t apply the ‘trick’ while playing them.
