Shane Watson finally rose back to form to help Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets in Chennai on Tuesday. Watson scored a brilliant 96 from 53 balls, taking Chennai to the target in the penultimate ball of the innings. The win got Chennai to 16 points, which is nearly a benchmark to enter the IPL playoffs.
A 77 run partnership between Suresh Raina and Watson laid the foundation to demolish Sunrisers Hyderabad. Suresh Raina ended his innings on 38. Rashid Khan and Sandeep Sharma were brutally punished, they leaked 44 and 54 runs respectively in their 4 over quotas. Skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar faired better, finishing at 1/18 in 4 overs.
Kedar Jadhav literally finished the match with a six off the second ball in the final over to seal the win.
When SRH batted first, Manish Pandey anchored SRH’s innings, he scored an unbeaten 83 off 49 balls. He alone powered Sunrisers to a humongous total of 175 for 3 after being put to bat. Pandey along with David Warner added 115 runs for the second wicket, laying the foundation stone for a decent total at Chepauk. David Warner scored 57 from 45 deliveries.
Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh ended in-form Jonny Bairstow in the second over for a duck. Despite the early blow for SRH, Pandey and Warner had an impactful innings.
