A fresh proposal was submitted at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to designate Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar a global terrorist.
The latest proposal to ban the JeM chief Masood Azhar was moved jointly by the United States, the United Kingdom and France. Once the proposal is passed, the Pakistan based terror group JeM chief Masood Azhar will get the tag ‘UN-designated global terrorist’, which would then subject him to global travel ban, asset freeze and arms embargo.
This fresh proposal was moved on Wednesday by the three permanent members of the UN Security Council, United States, United Kingdom and France, Russia will most likely to support the ban on Masood Azhar based on its past track record. However all eyes will be on China, which has repeatedly blocked similar proposals in the past.
The Security Council Sanctions Committee has 10 working days to consider the fresh proposal submitted by the three members.
The Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar’s organization claimed responsibility for the recent Pulwama terror attacks, to name a few past attacks- the 2001 terror attack on the Indian Parliament and the Uri terror attack.
