A journalists was punched, slapped and abused by a group of policemen. The video of the assault that has gone viral on social media emerged from western Uttar Pradesh.
Amit Sharma, the journalist said a group of Railway Police personnel locked him up and abused him last night when he was covering the derailment of a train in Shamli district.
“They were in plain clothes. One hit my camera and it fell down. When I picked it up, they hit and abused me. I was locked up, stripped and they urinated in my mouth,” Sharma said who was covering a story for TV channel News24.
The Railway Police personnel who assaulted Mr. Sharma also snatched his camera and phone while he was shooting from the spot of a train derailment.

Hearing about the incident several other local journalists rushed to the police station, and protested. He was later released on Wednesday morning.
Uttar Police, which oversees the Government Railway Police, took note of the video and said the railway police Station House Officer and a constable have been suspended.
This is a second incident in recent times where a journalists is targeted in the state of Uttar Pradesh. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court had to intervene to free a journalists who was locked up for over 11 days for sharing “objectionable content” on UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
