Two persons was killed and more than forty others were reported trapped after an under construction building in Karnataka’s Dharwad district collapsed. Fifteen wounded were rescued.
The collapse took place in Dharwad’s Kumareshwar Nagar which is 400 kilometres north of Bangalore.
Dharwad’s medical officer Giridhar Kakinada has placed district hospitals on alert, ambulances were despatched to the location of the collapse.
After hundreds of locals were spotted around the collapse building, section 144 was imposed in to control crowd gathering. A unit of the BSF from Dharwad have joint the rescue efforts.

The five story building had its first two floors operational, and had close to 60 shops. Some reports suggest close to 150 people were in these shops at the time of the crash.
Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy summoned the Chief Secretary to supervise rescue operations, and also permitted critically injured patients to be airlifted to Bangalore.
