Trump asks who is using India funded library in Afghanistan

The President of the United States Donald J Trump took a jibe on India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi for funding a library in Afghanistan, Mr. Trump suggested that it was useless.

The President brought India’s aid during a press meet at the cabinet meeting, and defended his move to invest less overseas.

The US President Donald Trump said Prime Minister Modi was –

“Constantly telling me he built a library in Afghanistan. You know what that is? That’s like five hours of what we spend . And we’re supposed to say Oh, thank you for the library. I don’t know who’s using it in Afghanistan.”

India had committed US$3 billion in assistance to Afghanistan since Taliban was overthrown. The projects included reconstruction of a high school in Kabul and scholarships to India for 1,000 Afghan students each year.

Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated the Afghan parliament building in 2015 after the reconstruction was financed by India. India is one of the countries who has invested heavily in Afghanistan.

India’s role has alarmed Pakistan and their intelligence agency ISI continues ties with extremists in Afghanistan to counter New Delhi.

During Trump’s Presidency US pulled out 2,000 US troops from Syria and cut US forces strength in Afghanistan to half at 7,000 in a bid to limit overseas spending.
