Officials in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh called in the army to help rescue a three-year-old boy who fell into a 200-foot well.
The incident occurred in Barahbujurg village in Niwadi district on Wednesday morning.
“The boy, who has been identified as Prahlad, was playing near the bore-well and fell in while his father along with other workers were fitting a pipe inside,” Narendra Tripathi from Prithvipur police station said.
“The bore-well is filled with water up to 100 feet from the ground but the boy is not in the water,” the official added.
The army is digging a parallel trench to reach the borewell and oxygen is being pumped into it. Worryingly, the toddler is reported to have stopped responding — his last cry was heard around 10am, TOI reported.
The state’s chief minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, tweeted that the army is involved in the rescue.
“I am confident Prahlad will be rescued safely,” he tweeted. “Let us pray to God for him.”
