The political satire on the former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has raised many eyebrows. The movie titled “The Accidental Prime Minister” will release on the 11th of January, starring senior bollywood actor Anupam Kher in the role of Dr. Singh. The film based on the eponymous book by his former media adviser Sanjaya Baru.
The trailer shows senior actor Anupam Kher in a very realistic portrayal of the 86-year-old Prime Minister who ran the Indian Government for 10 years until his party was voted out of power in 2014.
The trailer consists of extreme difficult episodes in his tenure, and the internal drama within the Congress party. In one scene, Dr. Manmohan Singh says that he wants to resign. To which the then Congress president Sonia Gandhi said “There is one corruption scandal after another. In this situation, how can Rahul (Gandhi) take over?
Anupam Kher’s wife Kirron Kher who is a member of Parliament from a BJP ticket, said the film will be game-changer in political biopics.
The official BJP twitter handle tweeted the trailer, this prompted the Congress to conclude that the movie was politically motivated, and a campaign movie. The Congress ruled states have already demanded for a special screening before the movie hits theaters. The recent Congress government formed in Madhya Pradesh is considering a ban on the movie.
Anupam Kher claimed that the audience would love his portrayal as Manmohan Singh and also believes that the film should be India’s entry to the Oscars.
