An upscale complex was attacked in Kenya’s capital city Nairobi. Evacuations, and gun battle is still raging on. At least 11 people have been killed in the Islamist Extremist attack.
The armed gunmen attacked the Dusit D2 compound which is an upmarket cluster of shops and hotels. Dozens of people were evacuated including foreign nations.
Somali Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The attacks began at the backside entry of the compound. An explosion targeting vehicles in the parking lot, followed by a suicide blast in the Dusit Hotel foyer and heavy gunfire sent people running for their lives.
According to eyewitnesses before evacuation process could begin explosions and gunfire were heard inside the hotel complex. The Kenyan anti-terror units rushed to the scene.
Red cross has set up a dedicated hotline for the families to trace their kin.
The attack drew comparisons to the 2013 Westgate mall attack in Nairobi where Al-Shabaab killed 67 people at the luxury shopping center and also the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
