A US$ 500 DNA test was conducted by Taiwanese police to identify a thief who stole a US$ 1.5 yogurt tin.
The victim shared a house with 5 women housemates, she found a yoghurt drink bottle belonging to her in the bin. She asked for the culprit to come forward, but no one did. So she went to the police and demanded an investigation. The police accepted the complaint.
As the bottle was wet, it was tough to obtain the fingerprints. The police instructed all the five suspects to reach the police station for forensic tests. Each test cost the taxpayer US$ 98, locals have reacted angrily to the large amount of time and money spent investigating such a petty matter.
