Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 9 wickets with 5 overs to spare at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday. While this was KKR’s fifth consecutive defeat, they are currently sixth on the points table. However, the win pushed SRH to the fourth spot in the IPL points table.
While chasing the target of 160, David Warner struck 67 off 38 balls. English man Bairstow, scored an unbeaten knock of 80 from 43 balls. The SRH openers looked in command as the target was achieved in 15 overs largely due to their 131-run stand.
Meanwhile, Kolkata had some sloppy fielding, and plenty of mistakes. Bairstow was dropped twice, once on 5 by Cariappa and then again on 58 by Piyush Chawla. Prithvi Raj got the only wicket, which was of Warner at 67 but it was too late. After Warner, skipper Kane Williamson walked to do very little.
Earlier, 21 year old Khaleel Ahmed grabbed three wickets in an impressive spell. He removed Sunil Narine, Shubman Gill and Chris Lynn on 25, 3 and 51 respectively. Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar too returned with impressive figures of 2/35, Afghan leg spinner Rashid Khan got 1/23 and seamer Sandeep Sharma removed 1/37.
During KKR’s batting Lynn was the top scorer accumulating a 47 ball 51. Rinku Singh was the other notable contributor with a 25 ball 30, Rinku and Lynn shared a 51 run stand. Jamaican hitter Andre Russell was sent off on 15.
