Sunny Deol Joins BJP, Likely To Contest From Punjab’s Gurdaspur

Actor Sunny Deol, 62, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today, days after he met with party president Amit Shah.

Sunny Deol in a short speech said, “Like my father joined Atal Bihari Vajpayee, I have decided to join Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I want PM Modi for the next five years.”

The actor is mostly likely to be fielded in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls as a candidate from Punjab’s Gurdaspur. The actor was welcomed by two union ministers, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.

The BJP is in alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab, and are fighting three of the thirteen seats Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur. Gurdaspur was the constituency of veteran actor Vinod Khanna, who died in 2017.

Sunny Deol is the third Deol to join politics after father Dharmendra and his wife Hema Malini. Dharmendra is not contesting this elections, however he contested from Rajasthan’s Bikaner way back in 2004 and won on a BJP ticket. Sunny’s step mother Hema Malini, is fighting for a re-election from Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura, again on a BJP ticket.
