Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians by five wickets at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. New captain, Steve Smith led from the front scoring an unbeaten 48 ball 59. Smith received support from 17-year-old India U-19 World Cupper Riyan Parag who made 43 from 29 delivers. The duo put a 70 run partnership.
This was Rajasthan’s third win off the nine games they played, and are second last in the IPL points table.
The Royals received a set back after three wickets fell for 29. Rahane once again failed miserably, he was gone on 12. Sanju Samson along with Steve Smith put a 37 run stand. Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar picked great figures 3/29.
Earlier while batting first, Quinton de Kock impressed with a solid half century, helping Mumbai Indians put up a decent total of 161/5. De Kock smashed 65 off 47 balls, youngster Suryakumar Yadav played a responsible knock off 34 from 33 balls.
In a surprise change for Rajasthan Royals, the management sacked Rahane as captain, and reinstated Steve Smith. Smith introduced leg spinner Shreyas Gopal in the third over itself. It proved to be worth it, dismissing Rohit Sharma on 5. Hardik Pandya and Pollard joined forces when the scoreboard read 112 for 3 in 15 overs. Hardik played another cameo, scoring 23 off 15 balls.
