The Government of India advised caution on any hurried decision towards boycotting India’s match against Pakistan at the ICC World Cup 2019 after the Pulwama attacks.
The attack witnessed death of 40 CRPF soldiers, and there have been sections who seek ban on any sport played against Pakistan.
Apart from boycotting this match against Pakistan, India is trying to get Pakistan banned from the tournament itself. However this could also retaliate against India. Like for example ICC can impose a ban on the BCCI instead.
Cricketer Harbhajan Singh asked for the international cricketing body to boycott Pakistan. Singh believes that India was powerful enough to win the world cup even though if we lose points without playing Pakistan.
Former legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar had a different view point, Gavaskar said “Why not beat Pakistan and make sure they don’t qualify for the World Cup Semis.”
Meanwhile the Manchester cricket stadium received 400,000 applicants for the world cup match between India and Pakistan to be played on the 16th of June 2019.
