Strongest BJP critic Shatrughan Sinha on Saturday officially joined the Congress Party, on the Foundation Day of his outgoing party, the BJP.
“In the one man show, two man army, everything happens from Prime Minister’s Office… the ministers can’t work freely anyway. We have seen how democracy turned into autocracy,” Shatrughan Sinha said.
Mr. Sinha took jibes at the policy of his former party, calling demonetisation “probably the world’s biggest scam”. He added, “It was a mindless decision… Several people died… Modi ji’s mother was in the queue and we were told it was normal.”
Shatrughan Sinha will now contest as the Congress candidate from Bihar’s Patna Sahib, he has been MP from the constituency for two terms.
After souring associations for years, and taking potshots at the Prime Minister Modi and his deputy Amit Shah, the BJP snubbed Shatrughan Sinha and named, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, for his Patna Sahib constituency.
Mr Sinha today said that Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Yadav has been “instrumental in my decision” to join the Congress. There were reports that Mr Sinha’s big bang admission into the Congress was delayed by the party’s tussle with the RJD over him.
