Roger Federer Knocked out of Australian Open

Roger Federer, the 20 time Grand Slam champion was knocked out of the Australian Open. Thirty-seven year old  Federer was playing against a twenty year old Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece.

Roger Federer lost 7-6 (13/11), 6-7 (3/7), 5-7, 6-7 (5/7) to Tsitsipas.

Remember Federer ranks world number three and this was his quest for a record seventh grand slam title in Australia.

This is seen as a turnaround game for Tsitsipas, and his career best. This also would be the Greek’s first Grand Slam quarter final, he plays Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut for a berth in the semi-finals.

The match lasted for  three hours, and forty five minutes.

This is what the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas told after the win —

“There’s nothing really I can say to describe this”

“I’m the happiest man on earth right now.”

“Roger is a legend of our sport, I have so much respect for him. It’s a dream come true.”

Federer and Tsitsipas previously met at a mixed team Hopman Cup match early this month but the result was a different. The Swiss champ won by two tiebreaks.
