Delhi Capitals defeated Rajasthan Royals by six wickets in Jaipur on Monday. Young wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant smashed a blistering 78 off 36 balls, after Shikhar Dhawan laid the foundation stone along with Prithvi Shaw. The opening pair hit 72 runs in 7.3 overs.
Dhawan completed his half century before he was sent back to the pavillion, the next batsman Iyer soon followed Dhawan in four runs. It was upto opening batsman Shaw and fresh batsman Rishabh Pant to continue the run chase.
Shaw had some luck when Ashton Turner dropped him on 10. Pant and Shaw were quick running between the wickets. Pant played the most influential role in the Capitals batting innings, hammering Dhawal Kulkarni. Pant stood foot till the end to make sure the visitors walk home with a win. Shaw played a significant role smashing 42 from 39 deliveries.
Earlier, while batting first Ajinkya Rahane roared back to form with a wonderful century to propel Rajasthan Royals to 191/6. Rahane remained not out on 105 off 63 balls, while Steve Smith contributed 50 off 32 deliveries.
Rahane was given a second life after he was dropped by Ishant Sharma, which proved to be expensive for Delhi. Rahane who was stripped of captaincy last week, proved his presence. Ajinkya Rahane punished Axar Patel, and Kagiso Rabada. Rahane soon brought up his second IPL hundred, the first coming seven years ago.
Even after Smith and Stokes were out in quick succession, Rahane went strong after Morris.
