Rahul Gandhi is adamant on resigning from job of party president

Congress president Rahul Gandhi is keen on resigning from presidentship after the party faced a massive setback in the Lok Sabha results. Under his leadership the party won just 52 seats in the 543 seater parliament.

In the Congress Working Committee meet on Saturday last week Rahul offered to resign however the Congress Working Committee rejected it by passing a unanimous resolution to work under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.

However, Mr. Gandhi is still adamant and hence asked senior Congress leaders to find his replacement.

Rahul’s mother Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra opposed the idea saying Rahul would fall into “BJP’s trap” by resigning. Moreover, senior Congress leader Chidambaram went on to say that cadres from the south would commit suicide if Rahul resigns.

The CWC is suppose to meet again in the next four days to decide the future course of action.

It’s also learned that Rahul Gandhi is miffed with the old guard of the party who were lobbying for tickets for their family members such as Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot who was keen on getting his son a Lok Sabha ticket.

Shashi Tharoor MP elect from Thiruvananthapuram said that Rahul took the defeat “personally” however added that the party would be effective only if it’s led by the Gandhi-Nehru family.

On Tuesday his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his deputy Sachin Pilot met Rahul Gandhi to try and convince him to reconsider his decision.
