Qatar defeated four time winners Japan to lift the 2019 AFC Asian Cup at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Qatar defeated Japan 3-1 in the final.
This major football tournament win for Qatar comes 3 years ahead before it hosts the FIFA world cup in 2022.
Fans have took to streets in Doha to celebrate the win.
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani congratulated his country’s football team for an “historic victory”. His twitter account says, “A tribute to our heroes who made this tournament an Arab achievement and… realised the dreams of millions of Qatari football fans across the great Arab world.”

Japan won the fair play award, Saad Al Sheeb won the best goalkeeper, Almoez Ali won the top goalscorer, and most valued player chosen was Almoez Ali.
This is Qatar’s maiden trophy at the Asia Cup.
