Priyanka accompanies brother Rahul Gandhi as he filed nomination from Wayanad

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday filed nomination from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala for 2019 General elections. This is the second Lok Sabha seat Rahul Gandhi will be fighting apart from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and senior Congress leaders including K C Venugopal and Mukul Wasnik. He submitted the papers before the district Collector A R Ajayakumar at the district headquarters in Kalpetta.

Heavy security was in place in and around the Collectorate ahead of the high profile visit of the Congress chief.




Mr. Gandhi landed in Kozhikode, 73 km from Wayanad, on Wednesday night to a grand welcome by hundreds of Congress workers. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi spent the night at a guest house in Kozhikode.

They along with several leaders, reached by a special helicopter that landed in a nearby school ground in Wayanad. Braving the scorching heat, thousands of party workers including women and youth gathered waving party flags and raising slogans.

He explained that he was fighting from Wayanad because “South India feels hostility from Narendra Modi, I wanted to send message that I am standing with you.” Wayanad, in a way, represents three southern states. It shares borders with Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.



The Wayanad constituency will vote on the 23rd of April and Amethi will vote on the 6th of May, the election results would be announced on the 23rd of May.
