Prime Minister Narendra Modi Conferred Seoul Peace Prize 2018

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the Seoul Peace Prize for the year 2018. The committee recognised PM Modi for his contribution towards the growth of India’s economy, global economies, and for reducing disparity between rich and poor through ‘Modinomics’.

The award was presented to PM Modi by Seoul Peace Prize Foundation at a grand ceremony.

The committee also credited Prime Minister for his contribution towards regional and global peace through a proactive policy with countries around the world.




Mr. Modi is the 14th recipient of the award, the past laurels were conferred upon UN Secretary General Kofi Annan of Ghana, charitable organization Oxfam of United Kingdom, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and UN Secretary General Ban-Ki-Moon.

The Seoul Peace Prize was established in 1990 to commemorate the success of the 24th Olympic Games held in Seoul. The award was established to crystalise Korean people’s yearning for peace on the Korean peninsula and in the rest of the world.

People who won the Seoul Peace Prize have gone on to be nominated and awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.



The awardee receives a diploma, a plaque and honorarium of US$ 200,000. Prime Minister Modi was announced winner on the 24th of October 2018, he is in South Korea to collect the award. In his acceptance speech Prime Minister Modi dedicated the award to the People of India.
