India celebrates its 73rd Independence Day today and Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation this morning after the flag hoisting ceremony.
Today’s speech was Narendra Modi’s sixth consecutive speech from Red Fort.
Below are a few highlights from his address:
-PM Modi extended greetings for the festival of Raksha Bandhan and also expressed his concern for the people in flood-affected areas of the country.
-He spoke in length about the government’s move to revoke Article 370 and Article 35A, criminalise Triple talaq and the welfare schemes for the farmers.
-Modi stressed on the importance of water conservation and that is why a ministry for Jal Shakti has been formed. He also announced that a budget of about INR₹ 3.70 lakh crore has been allotted for this mission.
-The Prime Minister talked about the increase in population of the country and urged the nation to understand the importance of birth control in the nation.
-“A total of ₹100 lakh crore will be allotted for new infrastructure in the country. Be it making roads, railways, bridges or hospitals,” PM Modi said.
-In Major Military Reform, PM Announced Creation of Chief of Defence Staff Post to Oversee Three Forces.
-The Prime Minister reiterated his government’s aim to make India realise a US$ 5 trillion economy.
-He urged citizens to use less plastic and make the country free of single-use plastic.
-He also talked about creating 100 tourist destinations in the country.
