A plane that carried 42 people, including a high school swim team, went off an airport runway while trying to land on Thursday in Alaska.
The Peninsula Airways Flight 3296 from Anchorage to the city of Dutch Harbor landed at Unalaska-Dutch Harbor Airport but went off the runway as it tried to stop. An image shared showed the aircraft tilted down an embankment towards a water body.
The plane went off the runway at 5:40 pm local time in the small Alaska community near the Bering Sea, more than 800 miles west of Anchorage.
The plane had 3 crew members and 39 passengers. PenAir said two passengers were critically injured and 10 others were receiving medical care.
The National Transportation Safety Board would be sending a team to investigate the incident.
Eyewitness said the flight from Anchorage to Dutch Harbor landed about 500 feet beyond the airport, near the water.
