A passenger on Friday was injured after jumping out of a United Express flight that was taxiing from a gate area at the Los Angeles International Airport.
At about 7:10pm, the man opened the door of the aircraft, activated the emergency slide, and exited onto the taxiway.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the passenger was seated until the plane started to taxi toward the runway, which is when he started to pound on the cockpit door.
Prior to opening “the exit door and [fleeing] the aircraft via the emergency slide,” a spokesperson with the Federal Aviation Administration said the man attempted to breach the cockpit.
Los Angeles Airport Police and the Los Angeles Fire Department responded immediately.
No other passengers were injured, officials said.
The passenger who exited the aircraft was apprehended by law enforcement officials and transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
Authorities are investigating the incident and working to determine the passenger’s motive, officials said.
The flight was heading to Salt Lake City and was rescheduled after a 3-hour delay.
