Novak Djokovic Clinched 7th Australian Open Title

Novak Djokovic the World No. 1 clinched the Australian Open title defeating Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 . This is Djokovic’s 7th Australian Open title and 15th Grand Slam title.

Djokovic dominated the game from the very start. The game lasted for 2 hours four minutes, on winning the game Djokovic fell to his knees and kissed the ground. This was Nadal’s first Grand slam final where he lost in straight sets.

Nadal says he takes back positives from the tournament, he said, “Even if tonight was not my best day of course I had someone that played a lot better than me tonight. I have been going through tough moments in the last year. I was not able to play until the first round here. Even if tonight was not my night it’s so important for me to be where I am coming back from injury.”

The Serbian world number one was emotional after the win, he said, “I’m just trying to contemplate on the journey in the last 12 months, I had the surgery exactly 12 months ago, To be standing now here in front of you today and managing to win this title and three out of four Slams, this is amazing. I am speechless.”

Djokovic acknowledged Nadal’s fighting spirit after his return from a back injury in September last year.

With the title win in Australia, Djokovic now had completed a hat trick of Slams following his wins at Wimbledon and the US Open.
