India lost to New Zealand by 18 runs in the 1st semi-final of World Cup 2019 at Old Trafford on Wednesday. Ravindra Jadeja’s 77 knock went in vain after Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul collapsed on 1.
The win put New Zealand in their second successive title clash. In 2015, New Zealand lost to Australia in a one-sided final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. New Zealand’s opponent would be decided between Australia and England, after they meet in the second semi-finals on the 11th of July.
For India, they were aiming for their 4th World Cup final.
Irrespective of the result India had a fantastic tournament, after they finished on top of the league table. More so, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had scored 1089 runs in World Cup 2019. KL Rahul had scored 360 runs including a maiden World Cup hundred.
While chasing a small target of 240, India collapsed to 24/4. Matt Henry and rent Boult were on fire. Soon before it could all end easily for New Zealand, Rishabh Pant provided the much needed magic alongside Hardik Pandya.
After these young turks departed, MS Dhoni and Jadeja found themselves in the middle of the battle. Allrounder, Ravindra Jadeja slammed 77 off 59 balls and added 106 for the 7th wicket with MS Dhoni.
India’s hopes were dashed when Jadeja fell in the 48th over, and MS Dhoni in the 49th over.
