Japan’s Naomi Osaka lifted the Australian Open in a three set thriller. The win helped her claim the No. 1 ranking in the ATP charts. Osaka defeated Petra Kvitova in the grand finals to win the Australian open.
The US Open champion triumphed 7-6 (7/2), 5-7, 6-4 in a 2 hour 27 minute game to claim her second Grand Slam and become the first Asian, male/female to hold the top spot.
The 21 year old Japanese after winning the match said, “I felt like I was in a state of shock through the entire trophy presentation.”
Naomi Osaka wonderful performance makes sure that the sport has good, bright talent for the future.
Osaka’s rival Petra Kvitova takes back many positives from the Australian open as well even after losing this one. Kvitova was the runners up here, and she did not drop even a single set on her way to the final.
This was Kvitova’s first Grand Slam decider since a burglar slashed her racquet hand in a 2016 in a knife attack. This definitely is the Czech’s best career performance at Melbourne.
