At least five people were killed in a mass shooting at an apartment complex in a Columbus, Ohio, suburb.
Three bodies were discovered inside an apartment in West Jefferson, Ohio on Monday. At least another two were found shot to death outside the building, local media reports.
Police responding to the incident were alerted to the shooting by a passerby who called 911. Officers arriving secured the scene and began looking for a suspect and evidence.
Police believe the shooting happened sometime between 1:00pm and 5:00pm on Monday.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office were reportedly assisting West Jefferson police in the investigation.
West Jefferson Chief of Police Christopher Floyd said: ‘Things like this don’t happen in West Jefferson, or don’t happen in small towns.’
He said it was at least seven years since the last murder in the town.
Floyd said the incident happened on a dead-end road so police are looking into whether it is intentional.
“We don’t know whether it’s a robbery, a target, we don’t know at this point,” Floyd said. “Something brought somebody to a dead-end street.”
