Former India captain MS Dhoni, who is also an a Lieutenant colonel (Honorary) in the Territorial Army unit of the Parachute Regiment, will proceed to be with the battalion.
MS Dhoni will be with the unit, which is currently stationed in the Kashmir Valley as part of Victor Force, from July 31 to August 15, 2019.
The Indian army approved Dhoni’s duties of patrolling, guard and post duty and would be staying with the troops.
The battalion that Dhoni belongs to is headquartered in Bengaluru and currently posted in the Valley.
MS Dhoni became a qualified paratrooper after having completed five parachute training jumps from Indian Army aircraft at the Agra training camp in 2015.
Captain cool has taken a two-month sabbatical from cricket to serve his unit.
There were speculations about his retirement after India’s loss the Cricket World Cup semi-finals against New Zealand. However, the chairman of selectors MSK Prasad on Sunday clarified that Dhoni has not retired.
Critics of MS Dhoni stated that the former captain was working to clean up his public image after his association with real estate group Amrapali, who defaulted several home buyers.
On the other hand people say MS Dhoni’s association with the army would promote youngsters to join military and do service to the nation.
