A meal-kit delivery service company apologized after a customer was sent a bottle of urine along with his order.
Oliver McManus said that he received a suspicious-looking yellow liquid in a plastic Coca-Cola bottle with a meal kit from HelloFresh delivered to his address in the United Kingdom.
Manus, from Bournemouth, took to Twitter on Sunday to ask for help. “I’ll keep it simple: why have I received someone’s bottled-up piss as part of my order? Look forward to your response on this one,” he wrote, along with a picture of the suspicious-looking yellow liquid in a bottle
He also asked the company to give him an address where he would send the bottle to them so they can ‘have a whiff’ in case they are sceptical.
When the post attracted a lot of reactions some suggested it might have been left there accidentally by a warehouse worker or a delivery driver. Responding to this Oliver said he believed it was a delivery error, adding “the box wasn’t sealed properly and the bottle was just sort of nestling on the top.”
Some users speculated that a delivery driver might have used the bottle to relieve themselves to save time. Others joked saying that it was apple juice, to which he replied negatively.
HelloFresh quickly responded to McManus on Twitter saying they ‘truly lack the words to describe how sorry we are because of this.’
Later in a detailed statement to the press a spokesperson said they are “truly horrified and sorry that the customer received the offending item” and shared that the company has launched an investigation into the matter to find out “how an open box with this bottle in it was delivered.”
The company revealed that they have apologized directly to Oliver, offering an appropriate good will gesture and are ensuring that such an incident doesn’t occur again.
