Man misses special repatriation flight after falling asleep at Dubai airport

A man who was waiting to be repatriated to India missed his flight after he took a nap at the Dubai International Airport.

The man, P. Shajahan, 53, works in Abu Dhabi. He had a flight from Dubai to Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on Thursday.

In the excitement of receiving a confirmed ticket to board the flight on Wednesday, Shajahan missed sleeping the night before.

Shajahan reached the airport early after boarding a cab from Abu Dhabi to Dubai. After checking in and undergoing a rapid test he reached the waiting area of the boarding gate.

What he thought was a short nap ended long enough for him to miss the flight. He will now board another flight on Saturday.

Shajahan paid $300 for the ticket.

The flight was operated by Emirates but coordinated by Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC) Dubai.

A similar incident occurred in March this year after an Indian national missed the last flight back home before the lockdown began.
