A 20-year-old man was arrested in Missouri dressed in body armor and carrying a loaded rifle and 100 rounds of ammunition on Thursday after he walked into a Walmart store.
The arrest comes less than a week after the mass shootings in Texas and Ohio which left 32 dead.
The man, Dmitriy Andreychenko was charged with making a terrorist threat after alarming customers inside the store in Springfield, that is 160 miles southeast of Kansas City.
Springfield police said that Andreychenko was arrested after walking out of the store with his weapon, however no shots were fired on Thursday’s incident.
Police believe the man intended to cause chaos, but they were also working to determine his motives. The police added that they would investigate the man’s social media accounts to find out if he was a threat.
Missouri is an “open carry” state that allows people to openly bear firearms without a special permit, but there are some restrictions, for example, on convicted felons.
On Saturday last week, 22 were killed at a shooting at a Walmart in El Paso. Several hours later, a gunman opened fired in downtown Dayton, Ohio, killing nine people. The shooter was also killed.
