The Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool Congress have been at war over the Jai Shri Ram’ slogans and it shows no signs of declining as the BJP started sending ‘Get Well Soon’ messages to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Union minister Babul Supriyo said: “She is the cause for so many memes on social media, it is not good for anyone. From my constituency Asansol, we will send ‘Get Well Soon’ cards to Mamata Banerjee. Something is definitely not well with Didi, and she needs to answer that.”
The BJP have decided to send 10 lakh postcards with “Jai Shri Ram” written on them.
Mamata Banerjee over the last couple of weeks was seen losing her cool over BJP supporters chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. In a facebook post last evening Ms. Banerjee accused the BJP of mixing politics and religion to create chaos and unrest in her state.
She wrote, “Jai Sia Ram, Jai Ram ji ki, Ram Naam Satya hai etc. have religious and social connotations. We respect these sentiments. But BJP is using religious slogan Jai Sri Ram as their party slogan in a misconceived manner by way of mixing religion with politics.”
The BJP would definitely be happy by milking the Jai Shri Ram issue for political gain. However, it’s sad that the BJP are using religion to resort to create chaos and grab attention rather than fighting Mamata on real issues such as development, policies and governance.
But you really can’t expect the BJP to change the narrative now, like for example in the recent Lok Sabha elections that concluded the BJP shelved core issues and asked for votes in the name of nationalism, religion and army. Moreover, it’s even sadder that none of the opposition are able to counter or set a parallel agenda.
