West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ended her3 day “Save Democracy Dharna” in Kolkata. She called the Supreme Court ruling a “victory for the constitution and democracy.”
Mamata was happy to accept the Supreme Court direction for CBI to meet the Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar at a neutral location, which probably will be Shillong, Meghalaya.
Brief Refresher-
Rajeev Kumar headed the SIT formed by the West Bengal government to investigate the Saradha and Rose Valley Chit Fund scams. Later, the Supreme Court transferred the probe to CBI. The CBI since two years was waiting to seek time with Kumar to question him on the case.
Kumar dodged the CBI all this while so a CBI team visited Rajeev Kumar’s residence to interrogate him in connection with the scams. The Kolkata Police barred the CBI team from entering his residence, instead the police briefly detained the team at a police station.
Then Mamata launched a protest against CBI, and called it PM Modi’s coup in Kolkata on Sunday.
Then the CBI moved the SC against the West Bengal government for “obstructing justice” on Monday. The CBI accused Kumar of destroying evidence, the court did not believe this CJI Gogoi demanded proof.
Today, the CBI furnished proof and the Supreme Court asked Kumar to cooperate with the CBI and hand over all evidence in the case.
