A MLA in the Maharashtra Assembly, Nitesh Rane was arrested along with his 16 supporters for assaulting and tying officials from the National Highway Authority of India on Thursday.
Prakash Shedekar, an engineer with NHAI, was assaulted by a group of Nitesh Rane’s supporters who poured buckets of mud on him while reportedly complaining about the bad condition of the Mumbai-Goa highway in the Kankavli area of Sindhudurg.
The video of the incident has gone viral on social media, it shows Nitesh Rane pushing the engineer after which his supporters, including Kankavli Municipal Council president Samir Nalawade and others, tied the engineer to the railing of the bridge which he had come to inspect.
The MLA Nitesh Rane, is also the son of former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Rajya Sabha MP Narayan Rane.

Nitesh Rane had contested the election on a Congress ticket but he left the party and formed their own party named Swabhiman Sena. BJP had backed Narayan Rane’s candidature to Rajya Sabha as a NDA candidate.
This incident comes to around the same time when BJP MP Kailash Vijayvargiya’s son Akash Vijayvargiya was arrested for assaulting municipal officer Dhirendra Singh Bais with a cricket bat during an argument over a demolition drive.
