Kolkata Knight Riders ended their losing streak by defeating Mumbai Indians by 34 runs in an IPL game on Sunday. Kolkata batsmen fired scoring the seasons highest total of 232, after fantastic knocks from Shubman Gill and Andre Russell, who contributed 75 from 45 balls and 80 from 40 balls respectively.
Mumbai’s batting line up collapsed when they fell at 58/4, Hardik Pandya slammed a breathtaking total of 91 from 34 balls. Just when Mumbai were riding high, and were about to seal the game Hardik Pandya was dismissed. Pandya’s dismissal in the 18th over sealed the game in KKR’s favour as Mumbai ended at 198 for seven. Pandya’s inning was built by nine sixes and six fours.
The win kept KKR’s hopes alive in the tournament, they now have 10 points from 12 matches. While, Mumbai Indians remain in third spot with 14 points from 12 games.
Earlier while batting first, KKR’s fire batsmen Shubman Gill and Chris Lynn put on a 96-run opening stand after Rohit Sharma decided to bowl first. Chris Lynn was dismissed on 54. The next batsman who walked in was Russell, the West Indies power hitter who hammered six fours and eight sixes to reach a total of 80 from 40 balls. .
KKR ended up scoring 135 runs off the final 10 overs, of which 75 came in the last five overs.
The teenage batsman Shubman Gill smashed six fours and four sixes making him visible in the batting arena. Russell and Gill shared a 62 runs from 35 balls. The Mumbai bowlers were hammered by the Kolkata batsman to score this giant run score.
