Kapil Mishra disqualified from Delhi assembly under anti-defection law

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Karawal Nagar, Kapil Mishra was on Friday disqualified from Delhi assembly on the grounds of defection.

Delhi assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel disqualified MLA Kapil Mishra under anti-defection law based on a petition by Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj.

Saurabh Bharadwaj represents Greater Kailash constituency in Delhi. He had moved the petition after Kapil Mishra allegedly campaigned for PM Modi during Lok Sabha elections.

Saurabh Bharadwaj had thus sought the disqualification of Kapil Mishra under the 10th schedule of the Constitution on July 1.

The disqualification of Kapil Mishra will take effect from January 27, 2019. Consequently, the Karawal Nagar assembly constituency, which Kapil Mishra was in-charge of, has fallen vacant.
