A 17 year old boy was killed in a grenade attack in Jammu today. Thirty others were hospitalised, and at least five of them are in a critical condition.
The teenage boy, Mohammad Sharik was a native of Uttarakhand’s Haridwar, he succumbed to splinter injuries on his chest.
The police arrested the person who threw the grenade, he told the cops that he was a Hizbul Mujahideen operative. He reached Jammu from Kulgam, South Kashmir this morning.
Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Manish K Sinha said, “Camera footage was examined and based on oral testimony of witnesses we were able to identify a suspect. He was wearing jeans and a red rucksack. We were on lookout for anyone matching the description. The accused was arrested and he confessed to his crime. Hizbul commander from Kulgam had tasked him with the grenade attack.”
The grenade exploded under a bus at a bus stand in Jammu, it’s unclear if there were any passengers inside the bus during the time of the explosion.
Most of the injured were bus drivers and conductors.
This was the third attack on the bus stand by terrorists in the past 10 months.
The security in the state of Jammu and Kashmir were on alert after the Pulwama attacks last month. It’s unclear how the police and intelligence failed to halt the crime under such high level of vigilance.
