Two bombing in a Catholic Church in Philippines killed at least 20 people, wounded over 111 people. Deadly terror outfit ISIS has claimed responsibility for the terror attack.
Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) blew off in intervals at the Jolo Catholic cathedral in the Mindanao region. One went off at inside the cathedral and the other targeted nearby soldiers who were helping victims of the first explosion.
The national military and the police are investigating the blasts and have vowed to do everything to bring the Jolo bombers to justice. Security forces have lockdown the province while investigators are probing the bombings.
The Government hopes that this explosion does not derail the peace talks with rebels. LastMonday, a referendum was conducted to ask the majority Muslim population if they back a plan by separatists and the government to create a new self-administered region.
Over 2.8 million people voted to support the referendum, however the town where the bombings occurred Jolo rejected it.
