Jamaican Andre Russell again hit a sensational 17 ball 48 to get his side to a massive total of 218/4 after being sent into bat. He later took two wickets for 21 runs for KKR to halt KXIP at 190/4.
KKR scored 56 runs in 19 balls after a no-ball incident to score their highest ever IPL total at Eden Gardens. In total KKR smashed 17 sixes. However, Robin Uthappa remained the top scorer for KKR, he was not out on 67 off 50 balls. Youngster Nitish Rana set Eden Gardens on fire again with a 34-ball 63.
During the chase KXIP batsman Chris Gayle was out by the fifth over, making a contribution of 20 off 13 deliveries.
KL Rahul was yet again dismissed cheaply, in the second over. Mayank Agarwal and David Miller tried to bring back KXIP into the game by raising 50 runs in 4.9 overs.
In the 15th over, the asking rate jumped up to 17.2 runs an over. Agarwal was out in the 16th over for 53 off 34 deliveries, while Miller stayed unbeaten for a 40-ball 59. In the end KXIP fell short by 28 runs.
The mankading controversy took a toll on Ashwin, Nitish Rana, Mandeep Singh smashed the off-spinner.
Varun Chakravarthy who was included in the KXIP side for his debut match was smashed by Narine for three sixes and a boundary in his first over.
