IPL 2019: Delhi Capitals defeat hosts Mumbai Indians, Youngster Rishabh Pant Stars

Delhi Capitals started off IPL 2019 on a fantastic note, after posing a mammoth 200 plus runs total against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Delhi beat Mumbai Indians by 37 runs.

Youngster Rishabh Pant stared with the bat, he got a knock off 78 in 27 balls, helping Delhi pose a 213 runs target for Mumbai Indians. Ishant Sharma and Kagiso Rabada claimed two wickets each for Delhi Capitals as Mumbai Indians fell for 176 in the chase.

Senior batsman Yuvraj Singh top-scored for Mumbai Indians with 53 runs.




DC’s Pant raced to a half century in 18 balls, hitting as many as seven sixes and plenty of fours. Pant played his natural game, punished Mumbai bowlers. South African Colin Ingram,47 and Shikhar Dhawan, 43 laid the foundation of a big total after their 83 run stand for the third wicket.

Pant hammered Hardik Pandya for two sixes and a four in the 16th over to start the destruction. He then went to to strike two sixes and a four off debutant Rasikh Salam in the 19th over.

Chasing a mammoth 214 runs for the home side were off to a steady start as captain Rohit Sharma and left-hander Quinton de Kock added 33 runs for the first wicket. Rohit who played his 300th T20 match was dismissed by Ishant Sharma on 14.



Youngster Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed cheaply on 2, soon MI lost De Kock on 27 off 16 balls and were down at 45/3. Yuvraj Singh along with Kieron Pollard added 50 runs for the fourth wicket. Pollard was dismissed on 21.

The new batsman Hardik Pandya was caught and bowled off the first ball by Axar Patel, and his brother Krunal Pandya made a decent contribution of 32 runs before being dismissed. It  was left for lone warrior Yuvraj Singh to chase down the huge total. Yuvraj’s 53 from 35 balls weren’t enough as the home side lost by 37 runs.
