Delhi Capitals claimed victory over Kolkata Knight Riders after it went into a Super Over, the first of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi.
The match was tied after Delhi Capitals scored 185/6 in their allotted 20 overs while chasing a target of 186. Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw led Delhi’s batting charge in the Super Over and managed to score 10 runs. Dinesh Karthik, Andre Russell and Robin Uthappa failed to smash big for KKR, as they were restricted to seven runs in the Super Over.
While Chasing the target of 186, Youngster Prithvi Shaw finished at 99 off 55 balls.
In the super over home team got 10 runs as KKR’s paceman Krishna Prasidh bowled and then Rabada executed yorkers perfectly to deny KKR any chance of a shot.
Russell smashed a blistering knock of 62 runs from 28 balls to lift KKR to a fighting 185 for eight.
Prithvi Shaw, the 19-year-old from Mumbaiker powered 12 fours and three sixes in his 55 ball knock which pushed the home side a run away from a win. Shaw shared a 89 run stand with his skipper Shreyas Iyer (43 off 32).
The Capitals lost Rishabh and Dhawan very early forcing shaw and Iyer to keep the required run rate under control.
