Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by six wickets in the 5th match of the IPL 2019 on tuesday. Delhi batted first at Feroz Shah Kotla and set a target of 147 runs for Chennai.
Dwayne Bravo picked up three crucial wickets and scored the winning boundary for Chennai Super Kings. MS Dhoni scored an unbeaten 32 runs as Chennai Super Kings chased down the 148 run target with two balls to spare. With this win, CSK secured the top position in the IPL 2019 points table.
When Delhi batted first, run scoring looked bleak after their middle order collapsed breaking hopes of a any big total.
Opener Watson got 44 off 26 ball and Suresh Raina got 30 off 16 balls. In total they hit eight fours and four sixes between to add 52 runs in just four.
Ishant Sharma failed to get any batsmen, while leg spinner Amit Mishra got a couple of wickets.
When Watson was out, it was just a formality for CSK to record their second victory but Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav made an easy chase seem difficult.
For Delhi, Dhawan gathered 51 off 47 balls . From a decent 120 for 2, Capitals lost four wickets for seven runs in just 1.5 overs. The last five overs yielded only 29 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja made it difficult in the middle overs and Harbhajan Singh bowled as many as 10 dot balls.
Wicketkeeper batsman Pant got 25 off 12 balls, during his 41 run stand with Dhawan. Colin Ingram and Keemo Paul were dismissed cheaply shattering hopes of a 175 plus total.
