Indian Singles Tennis Player, Sumit Nagal made Roger Federer toil at the US Open and also became the first Indian to win a set against GOAT Roger Federer.
The Indian who had to play the qualifying rounds just to earn a dream Grand Slam debut, put up a spirited performance against Federer taking the Swiss star down 6-4 in the first set.
Federer came back strong in the next few sets to defeat Nagal, 4-6 6-1 6-2 6-4.
After the match on being asked about his thoughts on Nagal, Federer said: “Never easy to come out and play your best. Even though it’s kind of what you live for, you dream about, playing on the big stage. So I think he did that very well. He knows what he can bring. That’s why I think he’s going to have a very solid career.”

Nagal who is ranked 190th in the world was the sixth Indian to win the Wimbledon junior Grand Slam Title.

Rafael Nadal has been a source of inspiration to Nagal.
Before his face-off against Federer, Nagal was backed up cricket skipper Virat Kohli, tennis star Rohan Bopanna and Bollywood star Lara Dutta.
