India’s overall coronavirus tally has now risen to 6.39 million after it reported 81,484 new infections in the last 24 hours.
Deaths rose by 1,095 in the last 24 hours to 99,773, data from the health ministry showed on Friday.
The nation which is second only to the United States in terms of total cases, has a scope for higher infections with a large chunk of the population still unexposed to the virus, a survey showed on Tuesday.
The survey tested more than 29,000 people across 700 villages and wards, found one in 15 people above the age of 10 had antibodies against the virus.
This means a total of 63.78 million people may have contracted coronavirus. However, experts suggest the “true” number could be upwards of 100 million.
One simple reason behind the discrepancy is insufficient testing.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday the Indian government released an additional set of relaxations. Entertainment parks, Cinemas, theatres, multiplexes, Swimming pools will be permitted to open with limited seating capacity.
Most of the services including metro rail, gymnasiums, religious place, were already resumed in the fourth phase of the Unlock.
