India defeated Australia by 36 runs in the ICC World Cup tournament at The Kennington Oval in London. Batsman Shikhar Dhawan displayed his fantastic batting skills to power India to 352/5 after India won the toss and decided to bat first.
Dhawan completed his 17th ODI hundred, ending at 117 off 109 delivers. While, Rohit Sharma accompanied him to score 57 from 70 balls to take the opening wicket stand to 127.
Later, Virat Kohli played an effective knock of 82 off 77 balls to share a 92 run stand with Dhawan. The last 10 overs yielded India 116 runs, primarily due to Hardik Pandya’s whirlwind knock of 48 from 27 balls and Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s 27 run cameo.
Australia needed a smashing start to gun down 353 runs, but Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar removed David Warner and Aaron Finch under the 10th over.
As the run rate was building up Steve Smith walked out to bat alongside David Warner. Warner fell to Chahal on 56. Usman Khawaja, Smith, Maxwell, Stoinis and Carey tried to get the take Australia close, but fell short eventually.
With this win India and Australia jointly have four points on the table.
Australia will play Pakistan on the 12th of June, while India next play New Zealand on 13th of June.
