Imran Khan returns home after a failed China tour. The Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan couldn’t convince it’s all weather friend to provide an immediate package. Imran Khan expected a $6 billion aid from China, just like what Saudi Arabia granted it last month.
Pakistan now badly needs the IMF bailout. The bailout would not come easy. The United States of America have a major say in the IMF decisions. Pakistan and USA relations are at the lowest at this point.
The IMF has sought a report from Pakistan government on specific details of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). China is investing $67 billion in this project.
Pakistan immediately need about $7.5 billion dollars to pay it’s import bills. It’s tough for Pakistan to reach a constructive deal as it would require changes in economic policy, tax slabs, price of power and oil.
