A 53 year old lady Marites Fortaliza walked into an elevator on Friday and wasn’t rescued until Monday. The lady was trapped in an elevator for three days while the owners were away for the weekend.
She was saved when a courier tried to contact the owners to deliver a package. The owners sent a family member to collect the parcel who found out that the housekeeper Fortaliza was trapped in the elevator.
An emergency call was made to 911, firefighters arrived and cracked open the elevator doors. They found a dehydrated Fortaliza, and rushed her to a nearby hospital.
The incident occured when Fortaliza was attending an empty billionaire Warren Stephens home, Stephen is an investor and a political donor. Ms. Fortaliza was trapped in the 3 foot by 4 foot elevator that broke down between the second and third floors on Friday evening.
The Stephens later then released a statement on the incident-
“The employee involved has been a valued member of the Stephens extended family for 18 years.
The Stephens family is relieved that she is doing well in the hospital.
A Stephens family member accompanied her to the hospital this morning and remains at her side. The cause of this unfortunate incident is being investigated, and appropriate measures will be taken to ensure that something like this never happens again.”
Private elevators are not monitored constantly, but as per regulations they are required to contain emergency buttons or phone lines for use in extreme situations.
