Russian President Vladimir Putin mocked teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg’s impassioned and powerful speech at the United Nations Climate Action Summit.
Putin speaking at an energy forum in Moscow said Greta Thunberg may have had good intentions and is sincere, but was poorly informed and has little or no idea about conditions in developing countries. He also said that adults must do everything they can so as to avoid dragging kids into extreme situations.
At the UN Climate Action Summit, Greta accused world leaders and politicians of being apathetic towards climate change and also destroying her childhood with their empty words and promises. Her speech, bold and powerful.
People who are genuinely worried about the ongoing climate change found her speech inspirational and treated it as a wake up call. But for those who consider climate change as a “hoax” trolled her, saying she overreacted.
Putin is the second world leader to criticise Greta after U.S. President Donald Trump. After Trump mocked the teenager, she changed her Twitter bio to “A very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future.”
Now, after Putin’s statement she’s changed it to “A kind but poorly informed teenager”.
Below were the comments of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
She's "a kind girl and very sincere" but adults need to "shield [teenagers] from extreme emotions that could destroy a personality."
